MOVA / Protection advice
Your family, your home, your income. Understand how life insurance, critical illness cover and income protection could support what matters to you.
Personal advice · No pressure to proceed
Cover and claims are subject to policy terms, definitions and exclusions. Acceptance and premiums depend on underwriting.
Three types of protection
Explore what each type is designed to do. A conversation can help you decide whether any of these options suit your circumstances.
Life insurance can pay a lump sum if you die while the policy is in force, subject to its terms. That money could help with a mortgage or your family’s future costs.
Who relies on you, outstanding debts, the amount and length of cover, and any benefits you already have.
Decreasing term cover reduces over time and may suit a reducing mortgage balance. Whether it remains sufficient depends on the policy and your mortgage.
Life cover does not usually replace your income while you’re off work with illness. Term insurance has no payout if you outlive the term.
Critical illness cover can pay a lump sum following a diagnosis that meets a condition and severity definition in the policy. You could use it towards bills, debts or changes to your home.
The level of cover, policy definitions, exclusions and whether cover is separate from or combined with life insurance.
A diagnosis alone does not guarantee a claim. The specified condition, severity and any survival period must meet the policy terms.
It does not cover every illness. It is different from ongoing income replacement and from private medical insurance.
Income protection can pay a regular benefit if illness or injury prevents you from working under the policy’s definition. It replaces part of your income after an agreed waiting period.
Your earnings, essential spending, sick pay, savings and existing cover, alongside what you could afford in premiums.
We’ll explain when a benefit could start, how long a claim could pay and how the insurer defines being unable to work.
It does not normally cover redundancy. Benefit limits, exclusions and underwriting apply; not every absence from work results in a claim.
These are general explanations, not personal recommendations. Policies differ. Steven will explain the relevant terms before you decide.
Free household buffer tool
If illness stopped you working, what income would still come in? Explore a simple household budget scenario. No sign-up needed.
Start with a monthly snapshot
Monthly shortfall = spending minus continuing income, with a minimum of zero. Savings duration = accessible savings divided by that shortfall. It assumes unchanged income and costs, with no inflation, savings interest or investment returns. It does not calculate benefit entitlement or model changes in sick pay. Try separate scenarios for different periods.
Savings could cover the shortfall for
—months
This is a budget illustration, not the amount of insurance you need or could claim.
Your figures stay in this page until you choose to include them in an enquiry. Reloading clears them.
Existing policies, employer benefits, available support and your wider finances also matter. This tool does not assess whether you need protection or whether a policy would pay out.
Personal advice, in plain English
Bring your questions, your priorities and any policies you already have. Steven will help you understand the choices and what they would mean for your household.
Your commitments, the people who rely on you and the support already in place.
Consider suitable options alongside your budget. Understand what is covered, what is excluded and when a claim could pay.
If you go ahead, get help with your application and understand the insurer’s final terms before accepting cover.
Already have cover?
A new mortgage, a growing family or a change of job can be a useful prompt to review what you have. A review may also confirm that keeping your current policies makes sense.
Do not cancel existing cover until any replacement has been accepted and is in force. New cover may cost more or have different exclusions.
Your questions, answered
You don’t have to work it all out before getting in touch.
Start with your household: who depends on you, which costs would continue and what savings, sick pay or policies are already available. We can discuss those alongside your budget before considering any cover.
Premiums depend on the type and amount of cover, the term and your circumstances. An insurer may also consider your age, health, work and lifestyle. We’ll explain the options and any relevant costs or fees before you decide. This page does not provide an insurance quote.
Life insurance and cover for illness have different purposes. Life cover may help repay a mortgage following death during the policy term, subject to its terms. It does not usually pay your monthly bills while you’re unable to work because of illness or injury. We can discuss what your existing arrangements cover.
Being self-employed does not automatically rule out protection. For income protection, insurers consider how your earnings are evidenced, your occupation and their benefit limits. We can discuss the information you may need.
It may affect the insurer’s decision, premium or terms. An insurer may apply exclusions or decline an application. Answer its questions fully and accurately. Please do not send medical details through this initial enquiry form; we’ll explain the appropriate process.
We’ll include it in the review. Check the benefit amount, how long it lasts, who is covered and what happens if you change jobs. Having workplace benefits does not automatically mean you need another policy.
No. It asks MOVA to contact you. It is not an application, a quote or confirmation of insurance. Any application, underwriting and policy start date are separate steps.
